HPS Home Power Solutions GmbH to present its unique system for energy self-supply at the ISH 2017

- Picea is the world's first all-in-one unit to supply year-round power from the consumer's own home solar system, independent of the grid

- Compared with commercially available energy storage devices, the system has a hundred times more storage capacity and the lowest cost per kWh

- Heat utilization and residential ventilation are integrated into the system

Berlin, Germany, 9 March 2017 - HPS Home Power Solutions GmbH (HPS), the Berlin based energy solutions provider which fulfills homeowners' desire for energy independence, is presenting its all-in-one unit at the ISH 2017. This system is the first in the world to supply year-round power from the consumer's own solar system.

The HPS Picea system combines energy storage, heating and ventilation in one compact product. Thanks to its high-performance energy manager, Picea is able to meet the complete electrical energy needs of a family home. The energy produced by the photovoltaic installation on sunny days can either be used straightaway, or converted into hydrogen and stored. This energy is then made available at night or during winter where there is little or no sunshine. The HPS system's fuel cell converts the energy stored as hydrogen back into electrical energy and heat as needed. Picea can be installed by selected specialist companies in any family home that fulfills the typical space requirements. The system is equipped with standard interfaces to common Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) technology. In addition, the user-friendly control system is linked to an app, which displays all the important operating and consumption data to the user at any time.

Compared to commercially available battery solutions in the home energy storage market, Picea has a hundred times more storage capacity. Picea has twice the output and offers the largest storage capacity with the lowest specific costs per kilowatt hour.

Picea
is an extremely efficient system with a high degree of energy utilization. In addition to year-round power supply, all waste heat produced is used to provide the house with heat and hot water, thus lowering the cost of heating. This sets Picea apart from standard Combined Heat and Power (CHP) installations in a building, which are primarily operated on a heat-led basis. This new solution from HPS guarantees its customers the greatest possible freedom from developments in energy prices, energy bottlenecks and fossil energy sources, while offering clean energy with absolute transparency, energy security, independence and sustainability from a decentralized power supply.

"We guarantee our customers that 100% of their energy comes from their own installation, and that their needs for clean electrical energy in a family home can be met entirely through self-supply. Picea has opened up new opportunities for customers, distributors and installation companies in the photovoltaic-based energy solutions market: energy self-sufficiency for the home. Pilot installations of Picea are currently running in a range of environments. Distribution to end customers is planned for 2018", says Zeyad Abul-Ella, Managing Director and founder of HPS Home Power Solutions GmbH.

Picea can be installed by specialist companies in any family home that fulfills the typical space requirements. The system is equipped with standard interfaces to common HVAC technology.

With an output of up to 8 kW and a maximum peak power capacity of up to 20 kW, Picea can supply power for the average four-person household. The system's storage capability can be easily scaled, and therefore adjusted to meet the annual energy consumption of a family home. Picea relies on a unique storage combination: As a short-term electrical storage unit, the integrated battery storage system is supplemented by a seasonal hydrogen storage device, which is able to store around 1,000 kWh in the summer months, depending on the location, thereby ensuring independent supply during winter. Working on the basis of a 10 kWp PV installation at the average level of solar irradiation in Germany, Picea requires around 3m2 of indoor and 5m2 of outdoor installation area. Picea can be utilized in existing buildings as well as in new builds. With its integrated ventilation equipment, the system is ideally adapted to the standards of modern homes, where it is able to achieve maximal efficiency.

Industry professionals will be able to experience Picea live for the first time at the ISH 2017 on the basis of a model used to demonstrate the system's functionality. The HPS booth is located in the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) collective area in hall 10.3, booth number E10 at the Messe Frankfurt am Main. From 14-18 March 2017, visitors will have the opportunity to be wowed by Picea's performance and innovative and unique concept every day from 9:00am to 6:00pm (18 March, 9:00am to 5:00pm). The ISH is the world's leading trade fair for bathroom experience, building, energy, air-conditioning and renewable energies.
